Job Details
Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer with strong Mastercam experience programming both CNC mills and lathes. This position will be responsible for developing programs from engineering drawings and 3D models, supporting machine setups, selecting tooling, and improving machining processes for complex, tight-tolerance components.
This is a hands-on programming role that works closely with machinists and shop-floor teams. The ideal candidate can take a part from print or model through programming and production while troubleshooting issues, improving efficiency, and reducing cycle times.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam * Program both CNC mills and lathes * Create programs from engineering drawings, prints, and 3D models * Review part requirements and determine the most effective machining approach * Select appropriate tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, and cutting strategies * Create setup sheets, tool lists, and clear instructions for machinists * Support machine setups, first-piece runs, and new program prove-outs * Troubleshoot CNC programs, tooling issues, and machining challenges on the shop floor * Optimize existing programs to reduce cycle times and improve tool life * Ensure parts meet tight tolerances, surface finish requirements, and quality standards * Work closely with machinists to identify opportunities for process improvement * Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve manufacturability or production issues * Recommend changes to programs, tooling, fixtures, and processes that improve efficiency * Maintain accurate CNC program revisions and manufacturing documentation * Assist with continuous improvement efforts throughout the machine shop
## Required Qualifications
* Strong CNC programming experience using Mastercam * Experience programming both CNC mills and CNC lathes * Ability to program directly from prints, engineering drawings, and 3D models * Strong understanding of CNC machine setups and program prove-outs * Experience selecting cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding methods * Knowledge of speeds, feeds, machining strategies, and material removal processes * Experience producing complex parts with tight tolerances * Ability to read and interpret GD&T and technical specifications * Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot CNC programs and machining issues * Experience improving processes and reducing machining cycle times * Strong understanding of precision measurement and inspection equipment * Ability to work effectively with machinists, engineers, and production teams * Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with multi-axis CNC machining * Experience programming three-axis, four-axis, or five-axis mills * Experience with live-tooling or multi-axis lathes * Familiarity with SolidWorks or another 3D CAD platform * Experience in a prototype, low-volume, or high-mix manufacturing environment * Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, plastics, and other engineered materials * Technical school training, machining apprenticeship, or an associate degree * Experience supporting new product introductions or first-time builds
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate brings a combination of strong programming expertise and practical shop-floor knowledge. This person should be comfortable owning the programming process while working directly with machinists to solve problems, improve setups, optimize tooling, and create more efficient machining processes.
Why Join Us?
* Program a variety of complex, precision-machined components * Work with both CNC mills and lathes * Take ownership of programming and process improvements * Collaborate directly with experienced machinists and engineering teams * Help improve cycle times, quality, and overall shop efficiency * Join a stable organization offering competitive compensation and benefits
